KALRI LAKE

Through centuries the most delightful songs of great poets of  southern Pakistan region are  linked with two most famous romantic lakes named "Sonehri" and "Kinjhar", which are now called as Kalri lake. The Kalri lake is an artificial water storage comprising of these lakes , In 1955 this lake came into existence as a consequence of implementation of the Kotri barrage canals irrigation project. The prime object of this reservoir is to supply water for Karachi city, Industrial and Metropolitan demands, it was firstly pounded in the year 1958.

The Kalri is situated  about 122km east of Karachi and 86km west of Hyderabad on National Highway, on Pakistan grid system it is 2684000 ft. easting and 7070000 ft. northing (survey of Pakistan). The lake is under the management of Irrigation and Power Dept. Govt of Sindh. On the eastern side of the Kalri a 23km long dyke (bund) was constructed to retain the lake from  spreading on the other three sides it  is bounded by the kohistan hills of Jhimpir which are the part of Kheirthar mountain range. The Indus river flows parallel to the lake, which is  ranging from 0.05 to 1 km distance. The soil of the area is composed of murrum mixed shale and lime stone, this type of soil is under the category of Nari formation.
